Welcome to our friends at RSB

A shared passion for biology

We will leave the teaching to you but Labster’s mission is to provide students with the tools that they need to succeed as scientists. The importance and need for these tools became even more apparent in the last year and it’s clear that technology’s impact on teaching has been tremendous. What we’re seeing is also that technology is here to stay. Referencing a study from January of 2021, it found that virtual simulations provided adamant results when compared to SOP-reading. But it is important to note that virtual labs should be a supplement, not a replacement for in-person teaching. To give you a little glimpse into our world and the world of 3 million students, we’re giving you free access to one of our popular biology simulations. Additionally, if you’re interested in a more general overview of our labs check out our video down below.

Cell theory and internal organelles

You will be introduced to each principle of cell theory and apply it to understand how the cellular organization of animal cells in the forest compares to algae, mushrooms, plant roots, and leaves. An incoming storm will help you understand the implication of having a cell wall. After additionally categorizing the organisms as prokaryotes or eukaryotes, you will then build larger-than-life versions of each of the four animal cell types on the holofloor.

Challenged to choose the correct internal organelles for the animal cells, you will learn about the function and importance of the nucleus, ER, cytoskeleton, Golgi apparatus, lysosomes, ribosomes, and mitochondria.  Then, determine which cellular structures are unique to specific animal cells such as sarcomeres, tight junctions, axons, dendrites and the extracellular matrix. Put in your details and play through the simulation below!

What the professors say

1,000s of higher education institutions, high schools and companies around the world use Labster. Here’s what some of them are saying.

Higher education survey data - March 2021

Labster recently conducted a survey with answers submitted by over 900 educators within higher education, across numerous countries, which indicated a strong tendency of digitalisation. Firstly, we saw a very high adaptation of virtual labs and/or simulations in current teaching methods. Another interesting segment to note is that there was a very small change for educators using a hybrid learning model now and for when things return  to “normal”. These trends express a considerable need for solutions that allow educators to engage their students in the classroom, online, and when they are doing homework.

This is why our simulations have gamification embedded into their design because our past research indicates that engaging students in a capacity that they can easily relate to has more prominent results.  All 200 of our simulations have been designed with specific theoretical and technical concepts that align with traditional curriculum but we have also incorporated factors such as student engagement and motivation.
